Last project for Brekke's animation 2 class here at cca. He actually got his super from Tippett to come in and give us a final critique on this which as awesome. Lot of problems with the fk/ik switch and next time will probably stick to maybe two or three instead of having about...20 ik/fk switches. Definitely not moving the way I want to, but it's getting better the more I fiddle with maya and the more awesome pro tips Brekke drops on us.

Demo in Progress
Kind of getting used to maya, still frustrating, but it's totally worth it when it starts to move the way you want it. Also thinking of going into modeling, texturing, lighting, etc. since it would be really cool to animate other stuff than norm and see it rendered and all, but animation feels way more fulfilling and there's just so much to learn what with the mechanics, and the acting, the improvisation, and the glav-

ball bounce rendered odd out of premiere, will fix on the next update. Flew back to the 305, so still getting settled in.

ASG Stuff
Mmmm, wrapped up the study group last Saturday. Finished it off with some free caricatures at the spring fair with all donations going to Japan . Then after our group project was screened over pizza in 306.
It didn't get finished, but, it was an interesting experience. Think next year the group will be more relaxed, fell a bit behind in school trying to organize all this stuff and in the end, I'm not sure how useful it all actually was. Talked with some people though and maybe something like Ringling's DPSC will work with critique/help at the beginning and maybe a movie or compilation of shorts from Annecy's top 100 at the end and some sketching fun in the middle.
Here are more ads I slapped together and the actual video. Credits were left out because this was supposed to play during SCC's Open Mic Night and it had already been underway for about half an hour when I got done editing. Play the video with something by Hans Zimmer in the background for added epic-ness:

3D Midterm Demo Reel
I'm not one to toot my own horn, but I think I've put together a pretty awesome demo reel:

Yup.

Seriously though, I'm struggling big time with maya. I'm still trying to understand the basic mechanics of animation, and doing that along with learning how to do it in maya is mind bending. I do feel though that I know what I have to do (arcs, timing, spacing, etc) it's just getting it down in maya; don't really know how to approach it.
Anyway, serious demo reel is uploaded. That last one, I have no idea what happened. After rendering it through premiere, it got this strobe light thing going on, so I though trance music was appropriate for the occasion.

I kinda like the first one better.
Also, if you're digging the music, you can get it off Jamendo for free:

Tail Ball
Man, I've always wanted to do this project since I saw it on some animation mentor student blog. Did the whole thing completely wrong, since this was rigged for squash, and I used the scale tool (was wondering what that ring around the ball was). Also, the tail, as fellow classmate pointed out, feels like a dead fish (agreed).
Wasn't finished (just set to linear tangents), but am going to abandon since the squash is wrong anyway:

Three Balls
Moar! Very similar to the assignment in Animation I, just in 3D, and instead of a tennis ball, it's a basketball.
We were told we could go back and do any of these projects over again for a better grade, definitely going to work on this one more.

X-Bounces
More exercises. The first is no squash or stretch, second has squash, third has squash and stretch. The ball wasn't really rigged; we just scaled:
That is all.

Third Dimension Animation
Really excited for this class. Last semester, from what I heard, 3D Animation I here at CCA was a bit generalist, had modeling, rigging and at the end they got some animation. After some suggestions though, starting this semester, it's all going to be animation from the get-go ala Animation Mentor. The school does offer more technical classes though, like a gaming workshop that really goes into modeling. The current prof (Daniel Burwen) of that class even has a forum up which I think is
