Children of Men

So, California College of the Arts recently got some really cool software from Toon Boom. They even got Rusty Mills (director/animator on Pinky and the Brain and Animaniacs) to do a workshop on the programs. One of the programs he went over was Storyboard Pro, which is pretty fun and a bit more streamlined than photoshop for storyboarding (no shit).

Anyway, don't think I'll be using it much since it's uber expensive and the labs at school usually have a class going on in them. I did try it out though and copied some boards from Children of Men, which I copied from Lou Romano's awesome Cinemosaic blog. It's kinda funny how professional the software makes the boards look, you could draw ANYTHING in there and it would look cool.

Eggs

For Set Design, had to "modify a space". Instructions are vague so we can do what we want, so I decided to make a short from some storyboards. The idea came from acting class where we had to act out  two minutes of our life on a specific day.

The boards are very rough but they were mostly used to help direct my cameraman (Ratha Chea) so he had an idea of what I kind of wanted. It's really interesting to board for live action because you can't always get what you want due to circumstances you can't control that mostly involve...time (tic-tic-tic as Mandrews would say). You sometimes end up consolidating shots on the fly.
