Sketches and Studies
Posting some more.
Studies done for a still life. Had been a long time since I used pastel, so had to brush up on how exactly it reacts to paper.
Design Concepts
Thought I should post these to archive the prep studies I did for my Illustrator and Photoshop Classes. We were to show these to our prof and we would get feedback for what they thought was nice about each one and ultimately advise us on what direction to take.

Hippos
Hultgren lays out some drawing of hippos, but doesn't go into idealizing their shapes, so...did a bit a research on that.
The anatomy is influenced from some pictures I found in a compilation of tiffs that are really interesting, in that it seems like they were sketched out as someone dissected a human (or so I infer from a picture of a guy with a corkscrew to someone's head and the next image being a brain).
The expressions are again, from Faigin, well...some of them.

Starting Bridgman
Been dying to start human anatomy, but I've been occupied with the Hultgren book. Going to see if I do both at the same time. Although, I feel like I have to actually study anatomy more to get the most out of Bridgman. Although "animal" anatomy and human anatomy are almost the same (same basic bones, features, muscles) the subtleties in humans (especially the face) is way more complicated, so I've been able to keep up a bit with Bridgman because of Hultgren and the bit I did with Hogarth, but...not enough.
Then I got Nicolaides to consider, which even has a curriculum to follow (awesome), argh.

Drawing 101
Putting up some work from my drawing 101 class. We're given a chance to fix them up more for a better grade, so I guess these are just works in progress. I would have worked more on these regardless since I have more rendering to go, anyway:
This one is a block of Roma Plastilina still in its wrapper with sculpting tools surrounding it and a bottle of galkyd in the back, all rested on a big piece of canvas lit up by a soft yellow flashlight.

This last one is a setup of multiple paper bags the middle one was a white freezer (buthcher) paper type of material, the one on the left was a gray norsdtrom bag, the surrounding ones were regular brown bags and the one near the bottom was a brown starbucks bag with a orangey tint layed over the face of the bag.
That's it.
